Carry out an audit of the leaks of the compressed air and nitrogen networks of a ship

3E Eng. was mandated by the Société des traversiers du Québec to carry out an audit of the leaks of the compressed air and nitrogen networks of a ship in their fleet. The compressed air network is divided into two sections of high and low pressure. The high pressure section is used to start the main generators, operate the fog horn and start the emergency generator. The low pressure network is used for pressurizing expansion tanks, for automated pneumatic control systems and for various pneumatic tools. The nitrogen network is used to treat liquefied natural gas, an alternative energy source for the ferry.

The inspection of the eight decks of the vessel by an expert from 3E Eng. allowed to locate more than sixty leaks of compressed air and nitrogen. This audit allowed the customer to locate and prioritize the necessary repairs. Eventually, the repair will save the fuel consumed by the generators of the ship.

About leak detection

For the detection of leaks of compressed air, water and other industrial fluids, the team of 3E Eng. uses the ultrasonic detector UL101 de CTRL Systems. We also offer training for using this detector and for locating leaks. This ultrasonic detector also has many other practical applications for different areas of engineering (blog de CTRL Systems).
