3E Eng. provided technical and material support to Teknion Roy & Breton to obtain Hydro-Québec grants under the Hydro-Québec industrial systems program.

Teknion Roy & Breton (TRB) is a high-end furniture manufacturer for corporations and institutions. In order to improve its energy performance, the Saint-Vallier plant has put forward a project to modernize its vacuum system. This project was eligible for the Hydro-Québec subsidy program.

As part of this project, TRB centralized its vacuum system, implemented variable frequency drives and optimized controls. To do this, they built a new vacuum system equipped with valves to isolate the different machines according to their operation sequences. These measures allowed TRB to improve the energy efficiency of its process with the financial support of Hydro-Québec’s subsidy program.

About Hydro-Québec Grants : Industrial Systems Program

The program Hydro-Québec industrial systems provides operators or occupants of industrial buildings with financial support to improve the energy efficiency of their electrical systems. The following are the different components of this grant program:

Analysis of electrical energy consumption

Eligible projects

  • Review of the design of a new installation
  • Analysis of the electrical energy consumption of existing installations
  • Identification of measures to be implemented for the optimization of electromechanical processes and systems

Financial support

The lesser of the following amounts :

  • 50% of eligible costs, up to 25,000$ per analysis
  • 100,000$ per site (for all analysis projects)

Electric power management systems

Eligible projects

  • Implementation of electrical energy management systems
  • Installation of equipment measuring in real time the consumption of the main processes, systems and equipment

Financial support

The lesser of the following amounts :

  • 50% of the eligible costs of acquiring and installing permanent measuring equipment, up to a maximum of 75,000$
  • 50% of the eligible costs for the development and implementation of an electrical energy management system (measurement for a minimum of one year) up to a maximum of 75,000$
  • 150,000$ per site or subscription (excluding the complementary bonus)

Prescriptive measures

Eligible projects

Implementing certain predefined energy efficiency measures

  • Lighting
  • Variable frequency drives
  • Air compression
  • Water cooling
  • Industrial refrigeration

Financial support

Automated calculation of financial support based on the lesser of the following amounts :

  • 15 ¢/kWh
  • A certain percentage of eligible costs (based on a standard installation)

Modernization

Eligible projects

Project aimed at reducing specific electricity consumption as part of the modernization of existing installations and equipment, with maintenance or increase of production volume.

Financial support

The lesser of the following amounts :

  • 15 ¢/kWh saved eligible
  • 50% of the total eligible costs
  • Amount to reduce the payback period of the investment in electricity savings to 1 year
  • Maximum support of 1M$ per project

New factory, expansion or addition of production lines

Eligible projects

Project to reduce specific electricity consumption in the context of an expansion, the addition of production lines or the construction of a new plant.

Financial support

The lesser of the following amounts :

  • 15 ¢/kWh saved eligible
  • 10% of the total eligible costs
  • Amount needed to reduce the payback period of the investment in electricity savings to 2 years
