Harmonic current emission analysis for fast charging stations

As part of the electrification of its bus fleet, the Société de transport du Saguenay (STS) has installed fast charging stations for electric buses. 3E Eng. was commissioned by Prowatt to conduct a level 2 harmonic current emission study at the common connection point (CCP) in accordance with Hydro-Québec’s requirements.

The study aimed to validate the project’s compliance with the limits prescribed by Hydro-Québec’s C.25-01 standard.

Methodology

  • Complete network modeling on EasyPower v11.0
  • Harmonic emissions simulation according to IEEE-519
  • Interpretation of results according to Hydro-Québec standard C.25-01
  • Summation of harmonic currents in accordance with Appendix B of the standard

The scope included modeling eight dual fast charging units and evaluating total harmonic distortion (THD) for the first 50 harmonic orders.

Results

Simulations show that all harmonic ranks comply with the limits imposed by Hydro-Québec.

The analysis confirmed the project’s compliance.

Expertise in harmonic studies
